“We grew up smoking flavored tobacco, and it’s more of a pastime than anything else. “ a social thing to pass time and sit together,” she explains. Being that Marina and her husband Roger are from Lebanon, they wanted to share a part of their culture, specifically, hookahs. With the addition of chandeliers, fluorescent lighting and hookahs, this lounge is meant to create an atmosphere of relaxation and socialization. “People say they feel like they’re in Miami… Our vision is for it to be an upscale hookah lounge playing nice mellow house music.” “When you walk in you won’t even recognize it,” says co-owner Marina Kallab. The Olives floorplan used to be mostly open space it’s now a cozy lounge reminiscent of South Beach. Rude staff, expensive and under quality food. What’s bright, sparkly and fun? The completely remodeled Olives Hookah Lounge and Bar. If you are tempted by the luscious landscape and the intriguing black-and-white-striped storefront, you would be better off bringing a camera to the restaurant than your appetite. Visiting the NARA was certainly an experience to remember, but one that I never hope to repeat and would not wish upon anyone else. We asked her to remove the gratuity, so we can give her what we thought was appreciate, she literally wanted to fight us. Finally, our bill arrived and our rude waitress added 20% gratuity to the bill, bring it up to $370, for a VERY BAD HOOKH, VERY DRY HUMMS, and couple of OILY appetizers. Out server simply shrugged her shoulders and replied, “you guys can read menu, right?” before shuffling back off to the kitchen. The information on the menu had been sparse at best and provided me with no clues. We decided to give the rude waiter one final chance to redeem herself by asking for water, she waved her hand and us saying you need to wait! WAIT FOR WATER? All she wanted to do was to up sale us on food and very bad drinks to increase the bill size. we had already begun to expect as much, especially because, in the 40 minutes we had been there. After another 35 minutes passed, my food arrived including our dessert. We also ordered few other appetizers and instructing my server to bring our meal one at a time, she brought everything at once, making the table crowded and unappealing to eat anything. I began with the diner's trademark "Hookah" the bottle was dirty and they used the cheapest quality of tobacco they can find, it seriously gave me a head, NOT WORTH $35 we paid. Fifteen minutes after we sat down, the rudest most disrespectful waitress arrived to take ours order. I seated my girlfriends and I seated at the cleanest table I could find. The seats inside the restaurant were dirty, not wiped, and left over food, sticky but dustings of crumbs and smears of ketchup stains are at least a little less appalling than animal excrement. Furthermore, because the building stands on its own instead of being wedged between other storefronts, patrons are granted full view of the scenery. The owners were at least wise in this regard, having selected a spot with a splendid view of a small man-made lake. The location of the diner makes it appear promising. Along that line, some of the finest dining experiences I've had throughout my career have been in the small diners and dives scattered throughout the suburbs of Providence, NARA is not among these gems. The mark of a good restaurant is not necessarily its size, but the quality of its food and the generosity of its staff.
